Himoloan Festival
Celebrate Faith and Gratitude at the Himoloan Festival
Every year on September 28 and 29, the town of Oas, Albay comes together in reverence and celebration for the Himoloan Festival, a meaningful event that honors the Patronal Feast of St. Michael the Archangel. Rooted in the local word “Himoloan”, which translates to pag-atang or tinagba (offering), the festival is a spiritual and cultural expression of thanksgiving. It’s a time when the faithful not only present gifts and harvests but also offer their God-given talents as acts of devotion and gratitude.
At the heart of the celebration is the vibrant Himoloan Street Presentation, where performers from various barangays fill the streets with music, dance, and storytelling, reflecting their deep faith and shared identity. Another anticipated highlight is the Carrosa Contest, where beautifully adorned floats — or carrosas — carry the images of patron saints. These are creatively decorated using fresh produce, native materials, and elements that reflect the unique character of each participating community. Notably, this friendly competition extends beyond Oas, welcoming neighboring towns to join in the spirit of unity and offering.
More than just a festival, Himoloan is a reflection of Oasnon values: generosity, creativity, and unwavering faith. It is a time to gather, give thanks, and celebrate the blessings of both the land and spirit. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, you’re invited to witness a tradition that honors the past, celebrates the present, and offers prayers for the future — all in the warm, welcoming heart of Oas.
