Kasanggayahan Festival
Celebrate Prosperity and Heritage at the Kasanggayahan Festival
Every October, the province of Sorsogon comes alive with vibrant colors, music, and movement in celebration of the Kasanggayahan Festival, a month-long celebration. Rooted in the local dialect, “kasanggayahan” means prosperity and happiness — a fitting name for a festival that commemorates the province’s rich history and the joyful spirit of its people. The celebration marks Sorsogon’s Foundation Anniversary, honoring the time when it was formally separated from Albay and recognized as its own province.
True to its name, the Kasanggayahan Festival is a time for thanksgiving, unity, and showcasing the best of Sorsogon’s culture and achievements. The festival’s grand highlight is the “Pantomina sa Tinampo” — a spirited street performance of the traditional Bicolano courtship dance, the Pantomina. Performed by hundreds of dancers representing LGUs, schools, NGOs, and civic groups, the Pantomina fills the streets with grace, emotion, and festivity, drawing large crowds in admiration and celebration.
But Kasanggayahan is more than a festival. It is a heartfelt tribute to Sorsogon’s journey, its people’s resilience, and the blessings that continue to flow from its land and seas. From cultural exhibitions to community fairs and local showcases, every moment reflects the province’s deep pride and hope for the future.
Come and take part in a celebration where joy is shared, stories are remembered, and prosperity is truly felt — the Kasanggayahan way.
