Daraga is probably one of the most underrated towns in the province of Albay and it has remained so until to this very day. But we want to state our case for Daraga. It is truly a special place rich in history and cultural heritage. Not to mention the beauty of the place, thanks to its omnipresent view of the beautiful Mayon Volcano, a celebrated World Heritage Site that has wowed local and foreign visitors when they come and visit. But why should you come over and stay? We have three compelling reasons that we hope you would hear out, believe, and take action.

Mayon is just about everywhere<\/strong>

Yes, and when we say everywhere, we mean everywhere. You can just walk in the streets, look up and lo and behold, Mayon Volcano, a beautifully, perfectly stacked heap of rock and soil taking the form of a perfect cone. We dare say it is the most perfectly cone shaped volcano in the world, excuse me, Mt. Fuji.

But if you really want to witness the incomparable majesty of Mayon, you just head to the Cagsawa Ruins and experience both its beauty and history in Daraga. The Ruins are remnants of the Spanish-era church that got destroyed by both the violence of Mayon\u2019s eruption in the past and the region’s unforgiving weather which has been whipped by powerful typhoons since time immemorial. The Ruins, especially the bell tower of the church, frames Mayon Volcano perfectly, allowing you some context of the long history of the volcano and the people in Daraga and nearby towns.

Another place to visit in Daraga is the Daraga Church, which is perched on a hill right in the heart of the town. You get another Spanish-era church and a view of Mayon Volcano, considered to be one of the most iconic all over Albay and the whole region. Here you can take photos of the church, a tourist destination on its own, and frame a shot with the church and Mayon in it, best taken in the golden hour.

The good thing about Daraga is that it sits right in the center of the provinces of Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Catanduanes and even the northwest part of Camarines Sur. In short, this is the perfect holding area for your multi-province exploration in Bicol. If you are in for the Whale Shark interaction in Donsol, Sorsogon, you are just 2 hours away by private vehicle. If you are after the surfing beaches of Sorsogon (Gubat) and Catanduanes, you can be there in 3 hours and 6 hours (this includes a 5-hour ferry ride), respectively. In the morning, you can go to Sumlang Lake, and then to Quituinan Ranch, and then to Quituinday Hills.
